Research on the Vibration Tapping Performance of Particle Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites Huimin Lu1,a, Deyuan Zhang1,b and Yang Liu1,c 1School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, China aLLLHM@163.com, bZHANGDY@buaa.edu.cn, cLY_XD@163.com Keywords: Particle Reinforced Aluminum; Vibration Tapping; Parameter Optimizing Abstract.
Introduction Particle reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs) are composed of a metal matrix phase of light metal such as aluminum and a reinforcing phase of ceramic particle such as silicon carbide (SiC) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3).
Particle reinforced aluminium matrix composites have been widely used in various industrial and engineering applications, and they are regard as the substitutes for the conventional materials [1-2].
Especially the tapping process of small size thread holes is a challenging task due to the highly abrasive nature of the ceramic reinforcement.

The motivation behind using a purely ceramic fixation system was to provide the same or greater structural density compared to human bone.
Since these ceramic materials do not take up significant torsion forces, the press-fit technique appeared to be most viable.
