The observations by internal friction give evidence that the coherent and incoherent vicinal å3 boundaries possess a high mechanical resistance, and support the hypothesis of “grain boundary engineering” that an increase of the fraction of å3 GBs in polycrystals can be beneficial for an improvement of their mechanical properties [21].
The results indicate that individual behaviors of different types of GBs can be revealed by internal friction, and can be applied to “grain boundary engineering

Introduction The reliability of weld joints in metal constructions and technical devices in electrical, oil-producing, mining, chemical, engineering and other industries has a significant impact upon safety and economic efficiency.
