To manufacture bulk ultrafine grain WC alloys, nanocrystalline WC powders as precursor were prepared for sintering from the mixed commercially available powders by high energy milling of 15 h.
However, the application of intensive pulse electric current was favorable to sintering, although it was difficult to achieve good WC alloys only by the pulse electric current sintering.
The aim of adding aluminum to WC cermet was to save cobalt resource and to inhibit WC grain growth by forming intermetallic compounds from Co and Al phases during sintering.

Careful examination of the interaction between primary dendrite spacing selection, flow velocity and flow patterns is presented, aiming to provide some basic insight into the mechanisms that are expected to affect the columnar growth as well as the columnar-to-equiaxed transition in technical, peritectic TiAl-alloys.
