Despites cutting parameters influence in turning processes are practically well understood, the development of new materials and cutting tools demands a constant review on its role on process performance.
Cutting Parameters and Surface Finish Taking into consideration the material removal rate and machined surface, the values adopted for the cutting parameters can be large or small, depending on demand and availability of materials and tools.
In roughing operations there is not much concern with the surface finish, since the goal is a high rate of material removal over a certain tool life.

The selection of test materials allows us to compare a 6mm thick high-strength material with a 4mm thick ultra-high-strength material, since two of the three materials have approximately the same yield strength as sheet (Table 1.).
Some experiments were carried out on one of the test materials (CP960).
Test materials were formed by air v-bending.
All materials lose contact with the punch.
Edge damage was similar in all test materials.
