The so-called Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM) developed by Idelsohn, et al [2, 3], treats the mesh nodes in the fluid domains as material points whose motion is followed in a Lagrangian framework, and has combined respective advantages of the meshless method and the traditional finite element method, especially suitable for solving FSI problems including free-surface flows and breaking waves.
