The leachate from semi-aerobic landfills contains a high concentration of organic materials which indicates the potential of methane gas generation in the leachate collection pond [8].
Concurrently, leachate samples were analyzed for Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in order to ascertain the amount of organic materials contained in the leachate which has the potential of methane gas generation.
With mean COD values of the leachate in the leachate pond this high, it indicates the presence of organic materials in the leachate which also indicates the potential of methane gas generation in the leachate pond.

These barriers are composed by reactive materials that once in contact with the contaminated water plume, can degrade, adsorb or precipitate the targeted contaminants [5].
Due to the evolution of biotechnology, biologic materials are being successfully used in these PRBs forming permeable reactive biobarriers.

As concrete is a highly variable material, there are many possibilities to use less traditional raw materials even for PCC, but the key is to achieve the specific properties mentioned above.
In addition, it has excellent anti-slip properties and good adhesion with cementitious materials, so it is widely used in road construction.
- Alkali activated materials, geopolymers: They are among the most widely used alternative binders in research for the construction industry because they reduce CO2 emissions and consume waste materials (FA, GBFS).
