As representatives for serial robots, a KUKA KR 6 R and a KUKA KR 16 have been chosen due to the wide usage of these systems in the industry and a good availability of necessary technical data.

The EPS system consists of an AC motor, a reduction gear and an electronic control unit.
The EPS ECU determines the assistant torque necessary at the column using the measured sensor data and moreover, the function of the EPS is required to perform safely [2].
The EPS is designed based on a BLDC motor with a reduction gear to reduce the effort of the driver by providing an assistant steering torque.
These measured data are sent to the EPS ECU so that the ECU may calculate the amount of assistant torque based on the map of the assistant torque to the column torque according to vehicle speeds.

The database for M. mcgregori was compiled in two steps, first by gathering information from records of the presence of the species in China from our field studies, electronic sources, and published scientific literature; and then by organizing, refined (reduction of redundant information), and standardizing the information (Morris 2005).

All the spatial data was handled in ArcGIS version 9.3 (ESRI) with the spatial analyst extension.
