1-Benzhydryl-2-ethynylazetidine (17a) was isolated as a pale yellow solid (896 mg, 71%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.56-7.16 (m, 10H), 3.60 (s, 1H), 4.01-3.87 (m, 1H,), 3.34 (dt, 1H, 2J = 7.8 Hz, 3J = 4.9 Hz), 3.032.88 (m, 1H), 2.42 (ddt, 1H, 2J = 12.9 Hz, 3J = 7.9 Hz, 3J = 4.9 Hz), 2.30 (d, 1H, 4J = 2.0 Hz), 2.27-2.14 (m, 1H). 13C NMR (CDCl3) δ 141.9, 141.2, 128.5, 128.4, 128.2, 127.5, 127.3, 127.1, 83.8, 76.1, 73.3, 53.5, 51.5, 24.7.
