The early failure stage was characterized by fewer breaks and was represented by the proportional hazards model, while the late stages, with multiple and frequent breaks were represented by a Poisson type model. [7] used a Poisson regression to fit the failure rate at the level of sets of pipes homogeneous in material, diameter and type of surrounding soil.
