The Ferrite term is used to refer to all magnetic oxides containing iron as major metallic component. Ferrites are very attractive materials because they simultaneously show high resistivity and high saturation magnetization, and attract now considerable attention, because of the interesting physics involved. Typical ferrite material possesses excellent chemical stability, high corrosion resistivity, magneto-crystalline anisotropy, magneto-striction, and magneto-optical properties. Ferrites belong to the group of ferrimagnetic oxides, and include rare-earth garnets and ortho–ferrites. Several new hard and soft ferrites, garnets and their composite systems have been developed during recent years, with very large potential applications, which include bio-sensors, targeted drug delivery, magnetic imaging pigments, anti radar coating, microwave components, transparent magnetic plastics, etc. From physical point of view, ferrites present an extremely interesting class of systems with challenging problems. Hence this special volume was prepared with focus on some of these topics of interest to university researchers and entrepreneurs in industry.

Powders are root materials for ceramics, as the starting compositions to prepare bulks or films. In addition, powders are usually used as additives for metals, polymers and composites. In general, the characteristics and performances of the powders dominate the properties and quality of final materials or products. Therefore, the importance of powders, including synthesizing and testing, will never be overstated. The objective of 2012 Workshop on the Synthesis, Characterization and applications of inorganic powders, therefore, is to provide a forum for researchers, engineers and students, to disseminate their latest research results and exchange experimental views concerning the latest developments in the novel technology to fabricate and analyze ceramic powders and also the preparation and characterization of bulk ceramics. The present Proceedings collected 73 papers presented in this Workshop.

Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS).
This book comprises state-of-the–art reviews written by acknowledged experts who are active in sintering science.
It includes seven invited reviews by authors hailing from five countries: J-M.Chaix (France) discusses quantitative aspects of the microstructures and modeling of sintering; with the technical aspects of image-analysis - including that of nanostructured materials - adding extra value. Z.S. Nikolic (Serbia) provides a theoretical review of the simulation of liquid-phase sintering, particularly under microgravity conditions, and extensively and critically reviews the results reported in the sintering literature. A.L. Lisovsky (Ukraine) opens up the vista of deconsolidation of polycrystalline skeletons in sintered composite materials, and deals with systems having more than one refractory solid phase, and with nanodispersed composite materials. G.S. Upadhyaya ( India) reviews the Samsonov model for the electronic mechanism of sintering, and its relevance; pointing out that, although the model is a qualitative one, it has great utility as a predictive tool and that various case-studies drawn from real multi-phase material systems are a testimony to the value of Samsonov’s model.

Description: In addition to the usual abstracts of research reported since the previous retrospective, this issue comprises ten invited papers. The first four are reviews that cover the important topics of conductive oxide preparation, the modeling of amorphous materials (silicon carbide, for example), the nanoscale characterization of oxides and the effect of combined irradiation treatments.
The other six invited papers present recent experimental or theoretical studies of structural defects in gallium nitride, atomic-scale deformation processes in nanomaterials, micropipes in silicon carbide, radiation effects in garnets and boron diffusion in hafnia.

Description: This book comprises the contributions to the sixth conference on polycrystalline semiconductors (POLYSE).
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The conference covered many aspects of polycrystalline semiconductors, but was more applications-oriented than on previous occasions; thereby reflecting the rapid evolution of these technologies. POLYSE 2000 brought together research specialists from >basic research, as well as from research & development engineering, all of whom are working on devices such as thin-film transistors, micro-electromechanical systems, or sensors and actuators. In particular, ten internationally recognized scientists (J. Morante, S.Périchon, M. Konagai, S. Wagner, R. Hagenbeck, D.A. Bonnell, G. Horowitz, T.Fuyuki, J. Kocka and V. Chuwere) were invited to review their work on several interesting and promising aspects of the subject: such as, micro-systems, solar cells, thin-film transistors, organic polycrystalline devices and polycrystalline ceramics.
