Description: The present volume contains selected papers from the 12th Grinding and Machining Conference, held in China (GMC 2003).
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
This collection presents a selection of over 250 papers, submitted to the conference by many universities and industrial concerns. All of the papers were subjected to peer-review by at least two expert referees. Moreover, fifteen papers on high-speed machining were specially selected by Dr. Ning He, a full professor at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), from papers submitted to the International Conference on High Speed Machining, which is organized by the NUAA and will be held in Nanjing from March 31st to April 2nd, 2004. These papers have been selected for the present volume because of their quality and the fact that they cover the main topics of the conference.

Description: This book presents the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Fracture and Damage Mechanics (FDM), of the 2-4 September 2003, at the Liborianum in Paderborn, Germany.
The proceedings cover a wide range of topics in fracture and damage mechanics and bring together researchers and engineers from academia and industry from Europe, Asia and Central and North America.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The papers are divided into four broad categories: Experimental Techniques and Measurements, Computational Methods, Stress and Failure Analysis and Processes and Mechanisms. Some emphasis is placed on three-dimensional and mixed-mode problems; such as 3D fracture criteria for the prediction of fatigue crack growth in solids under arbitrary loading conditions.

Description: Texture is a fundamental material characteristic which results from the microstructural evolution that takes place during various processes, including the thermomechanical deformation of materials. Therefore, texture-related phenomena will continue to be of great importance, because of their scientific interest as well as their effect upon industrial applications, in the 21st century.

There is now a tremendous worldwide interest in functional biomaterials. The present book covers the major aspects of the field. It is divided into four parts. The first section (A) covers various aspects of joint replacement. Section B presents the topic of dental ceramics, while Section C describes the microstructural aspects of biomaterials. Finally, some of the recent innovations in biomechanics are discussed (Section D), together with some features of bioengineering.

Materials, as utilized, experience the effect of residual, internal stresses, as these are the outcome of the material synthesis and/or engineering, and/or application in practice. Understanding and control of residual stresses is a prerequisite for successful application of materials in wide ranging areas as corresponding to, e.g., the microelectronic industry (thin films) and the automotive industry (crankshafts).
