Books
The 43rd volume of the journal "Advanced Engineering Forum" of peer-reviewed papers presents the engineering solutions and research results in mechanical properties of materials and precise processing technologies in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, the thermal efficiency of salt gradient solar pond, optical communication, bridge monitoring, and wood application, ecological impact assessment of gas-fired power plant. The professionals, students, and scientific investigators working in the various engineering fields will find this volume of value.
The book covers a broad range of topics related to damage and failure of structural materials and parts. The collection contains the results of research and analysis of the fracture behavior of the materials that are subject to fatigue and extreme plastic deformation including analysis of the failures caused by stress concentrators such as welded joints. Several papers focus on the structural design of engineering parts and prediction of their lifespan based on the knowledge of damage processes. The materials combine aspects of experimental, theoretical and computational investigations with an emphasis on the direct applications in engineering.
The book was comprised of the papers presented at the conference "New Methods of Damage and Failure Analysis of Structural Parts" (November 01-04, 2016, Yokohama, Japan).
This collection of peer-reviewed papers covers a wide range of topics: Fracture Mechanics, Failure analysis, corrosion, Creep, Non-linear problems, Dynamic Fracture, Residual Stress, Environmental effects, Crack Propagation, Repair Techniques, Composites, Ceramics, Polymers, Metallic and concrete materials, Probabilistic Aspects, Risk Analysis, Damage Tolerance, Fracture Control, Computer Modelling Methods (Finite Elements, Boundary Elements and Meshless), Microstructural and Multiscale Aspects. The work thus offers a timely survey of these subjects.
This book provided researchers and practitioners with the opportunity of highlighting current research directions and novel applications in materials engineering and mechanical engineering. The topics covered by the papers include functional materials, structural materials, composite materials, automotive engineering, manufacturing processes. It will be a useful reference work for engineers and academics worldwide who are interested in these topics.
This special collection of 59 peer-reviewed papers covers topics related to the fracture and fatigue of all types of materials and structures, including biological tissues, metals, ceramics, polymers, composites and thin films. This wide range of coverage will make this work of interest to those studying almost any sort of material.
This work presents the results of the initial stage of research of some sub-projects of the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 675, “Creation of High-Strength Structures and Joints by Setting up Local Material Properties”, set up in 2006 by the German Research Foundation (DFG). This Collaborative Research Centre is the result of cooperation between the research institutes of Clausthal University of Technology and Leibniz Universität, Hanover. The purpose of SFB 675 is to develop materials and manufacturing processes for high-strength structures, having graduated and locally engineered properties, by exploiting material, physical and/or geometrical effects. The incorporation of locally altered material properties, tailored to handle the strains expected to be encountered during use, lead to increases in the efficiency of the whole structure. This book offers an interesting overview of this intriguing topic.
