The 15th conference on metallography was held on September 21-23, 2021, in Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic. It was focused on the application of metallography in industrial practice - for the solution of production problems, elucidation of premature failure of machine components and constructions during service, breakdowns or accidents. In addition, some results of new research projects which could improve manufacturing technology or the quality of machine products were presented. Among other contributions from the conference collected in this book, individual papers deal with failure causes and fracture mechanisms, insufficient material properties and incorrect function of the components. Using metallographic analyses, which include light and electron microscopy, spectroscopic methods, and physical methods for the detection of defects, material structures are also investigated. Results are correlated with material properties, and recommendations for production improvement are given.
The present publication arises as a result of the cooperation between the Institute of Production Technologies (IPT), belonging to the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology (MTF) of the Slovak University of Technology (STU) and TRANS TECH PUBLICATIONS INC. For the fifth time, the book aims at publishing scientific achievements on the Materials Science and Production Technologies fields, as well as at enhancing the worldwide cooperation and recognition among young and senior academicians and/or practitioners. Some of the main topics included in the book are those related but not limited to the trends in Materials Science and their application in industry, e.g.: composites and biomaterials, polymers, materials weldability, analysis of metals and alloys, numerical analyses and simulation of materials, etc. Most of these topics keep a direct relation to the production technologies and systems and thus, always keeping a special focus on the materials used, there are also topics in the book addressing key production processes, technologies and systems.
The 33 papers are grouped as follows:
I. Steels;
II. Alloys;
III. Surface Treatment and Powder Metallurgy;
VI. Welding and Creep Resistant Materials;
V. Methods of Research and Analyze;
IV. Failure Analysis
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The 123 papers are grouped as follows: Invited Lectures,

The 8th Hungarian Conference on Materials Science was intended to provide a forum where Hungarian and foreign scientists, interested in metals and alloys, silicates, polymers and composites could have an opportunity to exchange ideas and establish new partnerships. These proceedings consist of 89 selected peer-reviewed papers from the conference.
