Description: Physical and numerical simulations make it possible for materials science to go from experience-based to science-based, and from qualitative to quantitative understanding. Physical simulations, which effectively reveal the underlying principles of a material’s structure and property evolution, save significant amounts of time and money. Numerical simulations meanwhile permit descriptions and forms of material processes which are impossible to achieve experimentally. Both types of simulation are naturally gaining acceptance worldwide, and will become a prominent approach used in materials research in the 21st century. Young researchers will therefore benefit greatly from studying this volume.

Description: The development of specific textures in materials occurs either naturally or by synthesis and processing using various methods. The presence of textures in materials manifests itself in the form of anisotropic properties; the understanding of which is indispensable to precise engineering design. In addition to conventional applications in structural materials, texture control has come to be practised in the form of functional materials. This collection is an edited version of papers presented at the sixteenth international conference on the textures of materials (ICOTOM 16), held at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, India on December 12-17th, 2011.
The proceedings are broadly divided into six sections; the first being a collection of keynote lectures, followed by papers classified under Deformation, Deformation and Annealing, Techniques, Annealing and Materials.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).

Powders are the raw material for ceramics; the starting compositions for preparing bulk or film products. In addition, powders are used as additives to metals, polymers and composites. Whatever their function, powders - their characteristics and performance - govern the properties and quality of finished materials and products. Therefore, the importance of powders, including their synthesis and testing, cannot be overstated. The objective of this collection of peer-reviewed papers was to provide a forum where researchers, engineers and students could disseminate their latest research results and exchange views concerning the latest developments in novel technologies for fabricating and analyzing ceramic powders. This work is an essential guide to the above topics.

Description: The 20th International Symposium on the Processing and Fabrication of Advanced Materials (PFAMXX) was organized by Hong Kong Polytechnic University, during the 15-17th December 2011, in Hong Kong. The main purpose of this interdisciplinary symposium was to bring together state-of-the-art developments regarding all aspects of the processing and fabrication of advanced materials, spanning the entire gamut of metallic, intermetallic, ceramic, ceramic-matrix composites, metal-matrix composites, intermetallic-matrix composites, advanced polymers and polymer-matrix composites; together with surface and high-temperature coatings. The symposium provided an attractive forum for the presentation of the latest advances, in materials processing and fabrication, by researchers and engineers from industry, research laboratories and academia. The proceedings cover the areas of: Advanced Composite Materials (Polymer, Metal and Ceramics); Natural Fibres (Plant- or Animal-Based) Composites; Nanostructural Materials; Properties of Materials; Failure Analysis; Computational Analysis and Simulations; Advanced Manufacturing Processes; Bio-materials and Bio-composites; Materials Characterizations. The result is an excellent and timely overview of the subject.
