Description: This volume documents the latest understanding of many topics of current interest in the science and technology of defects in semiconductors. The investigation of defects in semiconductors is a little different to that in other fields of materials science: in order to observe defects in semiconductors and elucidate their physical nature, a very wide range of tools and techniques has been introduced or created; thanks to the inventive ideas of the researchers. This work clearly reflects the lively state of defect investigation in semiconductors.

The search for new catalytic materials has grown into a very important multidisciplinary research field; including novel strategies for catalytic materials synthesis, control and manipulation of solid-state chemistry and surfaces, innovative characterization techniques and rapidly expanding catalysis applications, and has thus attracted the attention of large numbers of scientists and engineers all over the world. This special volume on Advanced Materials Research comprises new contributions covering aspects of catalyst preparation and characterization, as well as various applications of catalysis.

Description: Numerous commercial processes operate at temperatures exceeding 500 degrees Celsius. The materials used in high-temperature structures have design constraints which are in addition to those on materials used at, or near to, room temperature. These important additional constraints include time-dependent inelastic strain (creep), thermal stability of the microstructure and high-temperature corrosion. The addition of these constraints to those of low cost, strength, toughness, machinability, formability, weldability, and combinations of these, has led to the intensive development, over the past 50 years, of an extensive group of metallic materials: generally referred to as "high-temperature alloys".

High-nitrogen steels (HNS) are finding increased application in energy production, transportation, pulp and paper, oil and gas and chemical process industries, due to their outstanding mechanical properties as well as their corrosion/oxidation and wear resistance. The aim of this conference was to bring together experts from end-users (engineering and manufacturing companies), and participants from steel producers and research organizations, in order to exchange experience, scientific data and technical information regarding high-nitrogen steels.
