The special collection discusses recent results of research and development in the field of materials engineering, experimental methods, modeling, etc., with the aim to characterize mechanical properties of materials from nano to micro/meso-scale. Contributions on indentation and other methods for hardness and other mechanical properties assessment, measurement of deformations and stresses, time-dependent mechanical properties with related microstructure analyses (TEM/SEM, AFM, TERS, etc.) regardless of material type (metals, ceramics, plastics, biomaterials, concrete, etc.) are included.

Description: These are the proceedings of the XIV International Conference on Electron Microscopy (EM2011) held in Wisła, Poland from the 26 to 30th June 2011. The goal of the conference was to provide a forum where researchers from many different countries could exchange their latest advances in the field of structural studies, regarding the use of electron microscopic techniques as applied to various materials. Plenary and invited lectures offered overviews of exciting new developments which highlighted the applications of new electron microscopic techniques in physics, chemistry, materials science and in life and earth sciences.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The papers cover topics such as electron, holography, tomography, HREM, STEM, EBSD, ED and precession techniques - as well as their application to materials science and related disciplines.

This book considers many of the various aspects of ceramics interfaces from a gamut of viewpoints. The aim has been to bring together a wide range of specialists in this field, and this approach enables the reader to grasp quickly and fully the present level of understanding and to appreciate the problems which remain in the various research efforts pertinent to ceramic interfaces. Furthermore, it facilitates the mapping out of the direction of future research in these fields, which are much too complex to be covered by a single scientific discipline.
