Recrystallization and grain growth are mechanisms that alter the microstructure without necessarily altering the phase. They are typically driven by high internal elastic and surface energies though sometimes other volumetric energy terms appear. The topic is important to materials engineers and scientists and geologists alike. The former typically aim to exert control over the phenomena for technological and economic benefit while the latter often seek in these mechanisms the answers to questions regarding events long gone. This collection of peer-reviewed papers brings together the most up-to-date knowledge in this field.

Description: These are the proceedings of the XIV International Conference on Electron Microscopy (EM2011) held in Wisła, Poland from the 26 to 30th June 2011. The goal of the conference was to provide a forum where researchers from many different countries could exchange their latest advances in the field of structural studies, regarding the use of electron microscopic techniques as applied to various materials. Plenary and invited lectures offered overviews of exciting new developments which highlighted the applications of new electron microscopic techniques in physics, chemistry, materials science and in life and earth sciences.

Description: The development of specific textures in materials occurs either naturally or by synthesis and processing using various methods. The presence of textures in materials manifests itself in the form of anisotropic properties; the understanding of which is indispensable to precise engineering design. In addition to conventional applications in structural materials, texture control has come to be practised in the form of functional materials. This collection is an edited version of papers presented at the sixteenth international conference on the textures of materials (ICOTOM 16), held at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, India on December 12-17th, 2011.
The proceedings are broadly divided into six sections; the first being a collection of keynote lectures, followed by papers classified under Deformation, Deformation and Annealing, Techniques, Annealing and Materials.
