Books by Keyword: Uncertainty
Books
Collection of selected, peer-reviewed papers from the 3rd International Conference on Uncertainty in Mechanical Engineering (ICUME). The aim of ICUME is to discuss criteria, methods, and technologies to describe, evaluate and control uncertainty in mechanical engineering applications. International scholars and specialists come together and provide a broad discussion forum on the description, evaluation, avoidance, elimination of and adaptation to uncertainty. It is the aim to control uncertainty throughout the entire lifetime in planning, development, production, and usage of mechanical structures and systems. Engineers, mathematicians and other experts working in uncertainty evaluation exchange the latest research results and share their experiences in uncertainty control.
The 24 papers are grouped as follows:
Chapter 1: Uncertainty in Mechanical Engineering
Chapter 2: Uncertainty of Structural Dynamic Improvements in Light Weight Design
Chapter 3: Modular Design and Scaling for Reduced Uncertainties in the Design Process
Chapter 4: Improved Product Quality by Online Monitoring and Closed-Loop Control of Manufacturing Processes
Chapter 5: Uncertainty in High Precision Manufacturing Processes
Chapter 6: Modelling Uncertainty Information by Means of Semantics
Chapter 7: Uncertainty Quantification
Chapter 8: Optimization under Uncertainty
Chapter 9: Binary Decisions under Uncertainty
The 133 papers are grouped as follows:
Chapter 1: Applied Materials and Technology of Processing;
Chapter 2: Materials and Technologies in Micro- and Optoelectronics;
Chapter 3: Materials and Technologies in Construction;

Selected, peer reviewed papers from the 2012 International Conference on Health, Structure, Material and Environment (HSME 2012), December 4-5, 2012, Shenzhen, China.
The 199 papers are grouped in to the following chapters:
Chapter 1: Structure, Building Materials and Constructions, Architecture and Civil Engineering Application;
Chapter 2: Advanced Material Science and Technology;
Chapter 3: Advanced Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industry and Heat Transfer Application;
Chapter 4: Environment and Ecology Technology, Sustainable Development of Energy.
Engineering design, whether applied to components, products, systems or processes, involves the development and application of technology and scientific knowledge to a complex multidisciplinary innovation process. Research in design methodology involves both the development of new engineering design methods and the study of the science of design methods and design practice. The present 18 peer-reviewed papers gather together the latest knowledge related to the “Innovating Processes” title of the volume.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
This special collection of 19 peer-reviewed papers offers an academic and industrial perspective on the description, evaluation and control of uncertainty in:
1 Development,
2 Production and
3 Usage.
This work should meet the needs of a broad readership, and motivate further investigations.
Measurement, rigorously defined as ‘ascertaining the size, amount or degree of a measurand by instrumental comparison with a standard unit or by indirect calculation based upon theory’, is what makes science and technology different to imagination. Measurement is essential in industry, commerce and daily life. In the manufacturing industry in particular, measurement and instrumentation technology play increasingly important roles not only in the traditional field of manufacturing but also in the new fields of micro/nano technology and bioengineering.
This book presents recent advances in the use of measurement and instrumentation in the manufacturing industry. A wide range of topics are covered including: micro/nano-metrology,precision measurements,online and in-process measurements,surface metrology,optical metrology and image processing,bio-measurement, sensor technology,intelligent measurement and instrumentation,uncertainty, traceability and calibration and signal-processing algorithms.
