Description: This book contains the abstracts presented at the 20th International Conference on Internal Friction and Mechanical Spectroscopy (ICIFMS20) held in Lausanne 7-10 July 2025. This conference is the 20th of a series that started in 1956 in Providence (USA) until the last one in Rome in 2021. It is an open window on the progress of Science in understanding the elastic, viscoelastic and viscoelastic behaviour of materials. Topics cover a wide domain of modern physics: crystal defect dynamics, magneto mechanical damping, glass transition, and very low damping materials needed for gravitational wave detection and quantum opto-mechanical devices.

Online since: November 2012
Description: This special collection of peer-reviewed papers focuses on mechanical approaches to the experimental study and modeling of the deformation processes and defect formation accompanying various technologies.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
A series of papers was devoted to the processes of metal-forming. Special attention was paid to the question of micro- and nano-structure adjustment during processes such as extrusion and microtube press-bending. Other papers covered models for damage accumulation and healing, as well as fracture prediction during metal forming.

Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS).
The existence of crack-like flaws cannot be precluded in any engineering structure. At the same time, the increasing demand for energy- and material-conservation dictates that structures be designed with smaller and smaller safety factors. Consequently, accurate quantitative estimates of the flaw-tolerance of structures are of direct concern to the prevention of fracture in load-bearing components of all kinds: ranging from space satellites and aircraft to bone prosthesis and home appliances.

Online since: July 2002
Description: In addition to the usual abstracts of research reported since the previous retrospective, this issue comprises ten invited papers. The first four are reviews that cover the important topics of conductive oxide preparation, the modeling of amorphous materials (silicon carbide, for example), the nanoscale characterization of oxides and the effect of combined irradiation treatments.
The other six invited papers present recent experimental or theoretical studies of structural defects in gallium nitride, atomic-scale deformation processes in nanomaterials, micropipes in silicon carbide, radiation effects in garnets and boron diffusion in hafnia.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).

Description: Although the last Ice Age ended about ten thousand years ago, its effects are still influencing human activities today - for example: coastal engineering, siting of nuclear waste depositories, intraplate earthquake mitigation, inaccuracy of a global positioning due to changes in the Geodetic Reference Frame, etc.
The recognition of Ice Ages and glacial isostasy led to the first scientific revolution in earth science. During the last few decades, studies of the Dynamics of the Ice Age Earth have brought together various disciplines - including geomorphology, geodynamics, rock and ice rheology, geodesy, glaciology, oceanography, climatology, astronomy, engineering and archeology.Recent interest in the subject has surged forward due to new advances in space-age geodetic techniques and new developments in modeling methods.
