Rapid Casting Solutions
Description:
This special issue on rapid casting solutions comprises original research papers, review papers, technical papers and notes. It is devoted to the development of important topics in rapid casting technology, and has been published as a special issue in order to highlight selected papers submitted to important international conferences and symposia, plus invited papers from prominent researchers. Rapid prototyping has been around for some twenty years, and is widely used in diverse areas: from the building of aesthetic and functional prototypes to the production of tools and moulds for technological prototypes. Among the various rapid prototyping techniques, three-dimensional printing, polyjet printing, silicon moulding, etc., are used commercially as hybrid rapid casting solutions. This issue provides an overview of the rapid prototyping process for ceramic shells that can be constructed and then joined (as in the conventional process) to give a cavity for the pouring of metal to produce cost-effective prototypes for casting applications. This volume will be welcomed by academics, researchers, industrialists and university students specialising in rapid casting or rapid prototyping, production engineers and others.

Review from Ringgold Inc., ProtoView:
In a special issue, invited mechanical engineers present original research papers, review papers, technical papers, and notes on various aspects of rapid casting technology. Among the topics are metallurgical affects of three-dimensional printing, experimental investigations for the silicon moulding of plastic components, the rapid moulding of plastics using polyjet printing, wear in shallow cryogenic treated wire in wire electrical discharge machining, and experimental investigations for developing a pattern for dies using fused deposition modeling.
