Abstract: To solve the problem of design and manufacturing on the production of many varieties of small batch, the parts grouping method that based on clustering algorithm, clustering validity index and BP neural network method for new parts is proposed. At first, mathematical model of part clustering is built, and parts grouping is based on the similarity of data and cluster centers which is calculated by Euclidean distance, then the effectiveness of parts group is tested by Function Index and optimal number of clusters group can be found. The algorithm is achieved by Matlab clustering toolbox, so the best part family structure is built. Furthermore, the grouped parts are used to train the BP neural network toolbox in Matlab, then simulate new parts on network to find the match group. At last, a case study was also presented to verify the feasibility of this method.

Abstract: Increasing diversity of the products has led to the need of decreasing the design and manufacturing time. Subsequently, an important factor in reducing the design time is to produce parts families from the approached product components. This paper aims to present a method of achieving parts family starting from an iconic model of an existing product, without technical documentation. Firstly the Reverse Engineering (RE) technique is used, because it allows the digitization of the existing product using the 3D scanning equipments. This method supposes dividing the cloud of points, previously obtained, into independent components. Each component identified would be influenced by parameters with default values. This entire stage of parameterization is performed using CATIA software package. Using these components the parts family of the studied product is designed. The aim of the parameterization is to obtain a wide range of components, of various shapes and dimensions, once with the modification of the parameters that define them. Also, in this paper, will be presented a case study to highlight parts family resulted from the parameterized components, for a product belonging to the entertainment industry category.

Abstract: Characteristic part family definition, part family master model feature diagram and XML stored document of master model are given for product variant design. Then, variant design process of part family is elaborated, including searching similar parts and the similarity retrieval mechanism which are studied for the product variant design of part family. Finally, the standard part family and business part family are developed through Java, Pro/E, SQL Server and an example on product variant design is given to testify the validity of characteristic part family and similarity retrieval mechanism.

Abstract: Part family and NX/Open programming techniques which are two kinds of parametric technology used in product modeling based on NX platform are introduced in this paper. The template of 3D part library was created on the base of analysis of different national standards. The key technology of product secondary development was narrated in detail, and the operation interface was created. Finally, a case was employed to testify the feasibility and efficiency of these two parametric modeling technologies.

Abstract: This paper considers the problem of designing cellular manufacturing systems (CMS) with the presence of alternate process plans, tools and workers. The objective is to minimize the total costs of machine installation, operations, tools and workers with a number of identified practical constraints. A genetic algorithm is designed in order to efficiently solve medium and large sized problems. Preliminary numerical results show the worth of implementing the suggested procedure.

Abstract: Variant design is a common technology in mechanical design, but it’s inefficient to measure the variant parts using the traditional programming methods. In order to get the inspection procedures of variant parts quickly, this article puts forward a method that aims at the automatic inspection planning of customized products, which based on tabular layouts of article characteristics (TLAC). It studies the TLAC of parts which included the tolerance, the main model and its inspection template, and generation of the inspection procedures about parts. The result shows that the method can effectively improve the efficiency of inspection procedure generation.

Abstract: On the basis of proposing the general ultrasonic testing system, this paper discusses the concept and the composite module of computer aided ultrasonic testing scheme planning. By the thought of ultrasonic testing part family and modularization parameterization design, and the paper induces the needed study to solute the theory question and each key technologies of ultrasonic testing scheme. Finally, it simply introduced the developed computer aided ultrasonic testing scheme planning system of rotational parts.
