Active Earth Pressure on Retaining Wall due to Local Uniform Load

Article Preview

Abstract:

Based on the coulomb's earth pressure theory hypothesis, considering the condition of static equilibrium of the force when the slide wedge was in limited equilibrium, a formula of active earth pressure was proposed, which considers the cohesion force on the sliding plane, the adhesive force on the interface of soil and the retaining wall ,the local uniform load, and the given critical rupture angle of the explicit solutions. The contrastive analysis with calculation results based on code primarily proves the rationality of this formula .It is analyzed that , the active earth pressure acting upon the retaining wall and the critical rupture angle of sliding wedge will enlarge with the increasing of local uniform load width.
