Preliminary Study of Alternative Wall Insulation Materials for Home Residence

Article Preview

Abstract:

With the growing interest of sustainable and green technology, there is a need of finding the alternative for wall insulation materials. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of two types of insulation for the house wall as well as study the effect of those materials on temperature distribution in the house. Insulating materials that have been selected for this preliminary study are polystyrene, cellulose and coconut fiber. The measurement is conducted by using reconfigurable model house where the insulation materials can be inserted in the wall, roof and floor. The temperature data then were recorded using infra-red camera. The preliminary result from the experiment is presented in this paper.
