Observation of a Lamella Structure in a Baked Carbon

Article Preview

Abstract:

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of a baked carbon revealed the occurrence of a lamella structure, in addition to the isotropic structure. Selected area diffraction (SAD) and High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were employed to study the microtexture of the lamella structure and the isotropic structure. The lamella structure was shown to exhibit a much higher degree of order than the isotropic structure. The cracks between lamella and their possible development with heat treatment temperature as well as their possible relation to the Mrozowski cracks in graphite are discussed.
