Utilization of Pennisetum purpureum Ash for Use in Glass Material

Article Preview

Abstract:

The aim of this research is development of glasses from Pennisetum purpureum ash. Manufacturing the glass has been proposed as a useful choice to recycle Pennisetum purpureum ash from power plants and related industry. Glasses were synthesized in formula 55SiO2 : 20Na2O : 1.0Al2O3 : 13B2O3 : 6.3CaO : 0.2Sb2O3 : 4.5BaO by melt quenched technique (Pennisetum purpureum ash was used as a SiO2 source). The density and refractive index of glasses increased with increasing of sintering temperature of ash. The glasses from Pennisetum purpureum ash show light yellow correspond with absorption spectra from uv-visible spectrophotometer.
