Demand Analysis for Feeder Service Development in Makassar City
Abstract:
Urban public transportation services require high accessibility, namely a mass transportation system that covers the widest possible area and is in accordance with the hierarchy of road functions. Currently in Makassar City, public transportation service is sill less integrated among others. Low density or housing development affect the public transport service to work in effective and afficient way. This study aims to analyze the reach of services and the potential demand for public transportation to develop the concept of integrating mass transportation and feeder services in Makassar City. The method used is GIS-based spatial analysis. The data for this study are primary data obtained through interviews and distributing questionnaires and secondary data in the form of RTRW shapefiles and Google Earth images. The results of the study show despite, the long distance acces to public transportation service (1km), some of the respondents still willing to use the public transportation service. Most of these people usually dropped-off (by motorized vehicle) from their house to the nearest public transportation service. From the total sample, 4 percent of respondents use public transport, there were 31 percent who used public transportation with a distance from home to public transportation of more than 1000 meters. Furthermore, the potential demand for public transportation is categorized into three clusters based on housing location criteria, public transportation users, and the distance from homes to public transportation. These clusters include self-supported housing and commercial housing. These three demand clusters indicate potential for the development of integrated feeder transportation.
