Aspects of the Behavior and Analysis of Masonry Viaducts

Article Preview

Abstract:

Masonry viaducts are complex structures. They often have hidden aspects which make an important contribution to behaviour. The author is concerned to provide analytical tools for first level bridge assessment. Such tools must represent real behaviour adequately and conservatively. They must also provide the bridge owners of an indication of when and how a structure might become unserviceable. Finally, the analysis should be capable of providing guidance on strengthening where that becomes necessary.
