Description: The development of porous ceramic materials has presented a new challenge to various industries, because porous ceramics are more durable in severe environments and their surface characteristics permit them to satisfy very specific requirements.
Edited by: I.M. Low and X.S. Li
Online since: September 1995
Description: In the wake of the rapid progress made in ceramic science in recent years, advanced ceramic tools with superior mechanical properties have been developed, giving improved productivity, lower production costs and better workpiece quality. An introduction to the history, evolution, material properties, wear and fracture, processing technologies, and performance of various advanced ceramic tools has already been covered in Advanced Ceramic Tools for Machining Application - II.

Online since: July 1995
Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The study of oxidation and corrosion resistance continues to play a vital role in the development of advanced ceramics. A knowledge of both the mechanisms governing the corrosion processes and the rate of degradation under conditions of use are required in order to permit judicious materials selection.
Edited by: K. Uematsu, Y. Moriyoshi, Y. Saito and J. Nowotny
Online since: September 1995
Description: The objective of the present publication is to discuss various aspects relevant to the interface of ceramics from a number of standpoints that should as distinct as possible.
Edited by: G.M. Newaz, H. Neber-Aeschbacher and Fred H. Wohlbier
Online since: July 1995
Description: Ceramic matrix composites are under intense investigation internationally to find their useful application in higher temperature structures, particularly in aerospace propulsion systems.
Edited by: G.M. Newaz, H. Neber-Aeschbacher and Fred H. Wohlbier
Online since: July 1995
Description: Fundamental and applied research efforts to develop, characterize, and design structures with high temperature composite materials such as metal matrix composites (MMCs) are underway across the continents. New processing methods, evaluation of critical material properties, constitutive modeling, performance prediction are important needs which are essential for effective utilization and application of these materials.
Edited by: J. Lendvai
Online since: May 1995
Description: Nonequilibrium materials have always been of particular importance in materials science and application since most of the structural materials commonly used are not in the condition of stable equilibrium.

Online since: March 1995
Description: The relative importance of oxides in the field of materials is increasing every year, all over the world. The new or renewed basic and technological interest of ferroelectrics, ferroelastics, piezoelectrics, modulated structures and high-Tc superconductors provides excellent and well-know examples for the growing attention attracted by this class of materials. Most of the properties of these compounds are related to a phase transition phenomenon, so that phase transitions in oxides are today of the largest interest.
