Abstract: Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was grafted onto the surface of HDPE particles by radiation grafting and emulsion graft copolymerization. And subsequent ring-opening reaction of expoxy groups in poly-GMA graft chains with N-methylglucamine (NMG) was conducted to synthesis the boron adsorbent. The synthesis condition (radiation dose and NMG concentration) was optimized and characterized by IR and SEM. Adsorption behaviors of the boron adsorbent for boron removal presented that adsorption kinetics was well described by pseudo-second-order kinetic mode. The adsorption isothermal was well fitted with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption capacity for boron reached 15.63 mg/g at optimal pH 8. Dynamic experiment revealed that boron could be efficiently adsorbed by the boron adsorbent and fully desorbed using 13 BV of 1 mol/L HCl.

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of cementitious capillary crystalline waterproofing (CCCW) material on the water impermeability and microstructure of concrete. The water impermeability of concrete covered with or without CCCW material was tested according to the Chinese standard GB 18445-2012. The results indicate that concretes coated with CCCW material showed much higher water impermeability than blank ones, and the ratio of water impermeability pressure between them reached 275. The samples obtained in various depths of hardened cement paste specimens with or without CCCW coating were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), to study the differences in microstructure and hydration products. The results present that after a 28-day standard curing, there were lots of ettringite crystals and CaCO3 formed in the paste in 1 cm from the coating, but the action depth of the CCCW coating could not reach 3 cm. The ettringite and CaCO3 is precipitated in the pore structure of cement matrix and filling the voids, which leads to the significant enhancement in water impermeability.

Abstract: There are some studies on live load distribution factors(LLDF) of hollow core slab bridges which mainly consider the influence of connecting method and rigidity, while the effects of span length and skew angle have not been fully involved. Influenced by the trend of road and river, the hollow core slab bridges are often skewed with rivers. So it is essential to study the span length and skew angle effects in bridge widening. Based on a highway widening project, some representative hollow core slab bridges are selected for widening analysis. Theoretical method and finite element method are used to analysis the LLDF of slab bridges before and after widening. Finite element method(FEM) can give high precision in LLDF calculating. The influences of span length, connecting stiffness and skew angle are studied. The result indicates that no matter before or after widening the LLDF become smaller with the increase of span length. After widening, the LLDF of the half slabs near to the widening seam reduce obviously and with the span length increases the variation becomes more obviously. The connecting stiffness brings small influence to the LLDF in hollow core slab bridges. And with the increase of skew angle, the LLDF of the new side slab changes obviously, but the variation of LLDF of original slabs is not obviously according to skew angle.

Abstract: Geopolymer has been applied in a great many fields such as cement and concrete, fire-proof material, heavy metal immobilization because of its excellent properties. In recent years, the additives such as fibers, carbon nanotube, graphene and inorganic mineral materials has been used to further improve the mechanical strength and other properties. The geopolymer modification with inorganic mineral materials including Ca (Mg)-rich, Si-rich, Al-rich, silicate aluminate and metal oxides mineral materials is reviewed and the action and modification mechanism of these materials in the geopolymer system are nterpreted in this paper.
