Introduction Strength and ductility are two conflicted factors of materials.
However, elicited by the structures of ancient animals and plants, additional the scale of fishes [1], the metal materials by means of treatment may be not only hard but also compliant as well as these scales.
As well known, surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) [2] is generally used to enhance the strength by means of severe plastic deformation without changing the chemical components of materials.

Hybrid materials offer great potential for weight and cost reduction, function integration and improved mechanical properties.
In terms of implementation, it is possible to produce fully or partially joined semi-finished parts from metallic, organic or inorganic materials.
The use of hybrid materials could even extend the property range of double blanks.
The local reinforcement offers cost-efficient use of high priced materials like CFRP because of the limited material use.
The proposed ECUF process could help manufacture suitable semi-finished materials from metal and plastic blanks.
