The lower conversion efficiency of aluminum (oxide) in boiler slag may have resulted from the formation of an unfavorable structure of aluminum oxides during high-temperature coal combustion, such as mullite(Al6Si2O13).

The classification of stainless steels is normally based on its structure which closely relates to the steel mechanical properties e.g. ferritic, austenitic, martensitic, austeno-ferritic (duplex) or precipitation-hardened stainless steels.
For example, the AISI 304 grade which has the austenite structure at room temperature is obtained by the addition of 9.5 wt.% of nickel to the ferritic Fe–19Cr (unless mentioned otherwise, the chemical composition is in wt.%) [1, 7].

Since the microstructure of the investigated alloys is predominantly that of α-Ti phase with hexagonal closed-packed (HCP) structure, a noticeable increase in the COF with increasing load occurred due to associated work-hardening and growth in the asperities junctions [6].

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a wide band gap semiconductor with a hexagonal wurtzite structure.
The wurtzite structure is most stable at ambient conditions and thus most common.
The zinc blende form can be stabilized by growing ZnO on substrates with cubic lattice structure.
Figure 2 represents the crystal structure of zinc oxide.

The entries are ordered according to their structure.
Since TiO2(B) is a layered structure, it is apparently less prone to such disorder contrary to anatase, a 3D-structure.
Despite the fact that the XRD clearly indicates the rutile structure, there must be a large degree of disorder.
However, XRD measurements of Eusolex  T-2000 confirmed the rutile structure.
This supports the idea that the smaller particles do no longer have the undistorted rutile structure but adopt a different structure (e.g. rutile with a large amount of disorder) below a critical value, maybe around 50 nm.

Table 1 Analysis on the chemistry composition of the curing agent JNS-2 Items SO3/% CaO/% MgO/% SiO2/% Test value 25.83 65.36 5.47 1.82 Table 2 Basic properties of fly ash Items SiO2/% Fe2O3/% Al2O3/% CaO/% Ignition loss/% Fineness /% Test value 46.24 2.83 20.92 0.56 11.3 36.2 According to Table 2, the fly ash has high content of the active materials: SiO2+Al2O3+Fe2O3=69.99%, while CaO 0.56%, therefore, it belonged to low calcium fly ash.
Due to the hydration reaction between curing agent and fly ash, the connection effect of hydrate crystals generated by the hydration reaction on fly ash granules was high, and the triaxial shear process was regarded as the process of the structure damage of fly ash itself.

Detailed analysis of the structure and composition of the core area is investigated in [19].
The width of the amorphous zone around a micro crack varied from up to 9 mm, depending on the stress levels in the damaged area and the sample chemistry.
