It integrated advanced material models with industrial
fabrication process models to predict the microstructures and properties in the complete production
chain processes of Al sheet and profiles, i.e. by DC ingot casting, rolling and extrusion and analyze
complex interactions of critical process parameters with the corresponding metallurgical mechanisms
and predict the related material response and properties.
Then further advances in computer technology and new physically based model approaches allowed to integrate the material and process models into industrial production and a detailed analysis of the main process parameters correlated with basic principles of physical metallurgy and their (statistical) correlation with material properties became possible.
Their implementation and in-line application will help plant engineers to analyse and solve practical problems, to increase industrial process variability and material quality and significantly decrease development time and cost.
