The proceedings of the National conference on science of materials (NCSM2015, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, India, 28-30 December, 2015) consists from science peer reviewed articles covering a wide range of basic and applied aspects of the material’s research. The proceedings depict a multidisciplinary nature of presented papers from many areas of modern materials: condensed matter and material physics, chemistry, biological science and modeling.
The topics of published results of ICNME 2016 includes: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, biomaterials and biomedical engineering, ceramic and glass materials, computational material science, crystal defect engineering, experimental characterizations, fundamentals and characterization, magnetic materials etc.
In this issue are collected materials of 2015 Annual Meeting of International Commission on Glass which was held in Bangkok. It has brought together leading researchers and industry representatives to review and share scientific advantage referred to the understanding of glassy state and the development of new materials as well as recent progress in production practices and advanced technical support.
ICTA2015 has potentially become one of the most distinguished international meetings for researchers, scientists, engineers, and specialists in the fields of ceramic and glass. The conference offers the most updated researches in science and technology of this field, as well as the opportunity for the ceramic and glass experts to present, share and discuss their works intensively on the topics of Ceramic Industry Research, Advanced Ceramics, and Glaze and Glass Technology.
The aims and contents of the ICAPMA 2015 special volume are to facilitate an exchange of information on best practices for material science and applications. It will provide a chance for physicists and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address the most innovative research and development including technical challenges and to discuss their ideas, results, work in progress and experience on all aspects of applied physics, material science and applications.
ICAPMA 2015 was organized by Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU). This conference also was co-organized by Center of Excellence in Glass Technology and Materials Science (CEGM), Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University (NPRU), Thermoelectric Research Center (TRC) and Center of Excellence on Alternative Energy (CEAE), Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University (SNRU), Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University (MCRU) and National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC).

The aims and contents of the ICAPMA 2013 special volume are to facilitate an exchange of information on best practices for Applied Physics and Material Applications, etc. It will provide a chance for physicists and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address the most innovative research and development including technical challenges and to discuss their ideas, results, work in progress and experience on all aspects of Applied Physics and Material Applications.
The present special topic volume entitled “Glass Science and its Applications – II” covers different glasses and glass ceramic materials for technological and biomedical applications. In this special issue, the first review paper reports on the linear and non- linear properties of different materials. The second paper reports the visible-NIR luminescence and time-resolved emission spectral profiles of Nd3+, and Er3+ doped silver zinc borate glasses. The third paper, As2O3 glasses were identified as the low-loss materials for long-distance optical transmission and CuO containing glasses are also draw special attention because of the p-type semiconductivity property. Glass system of composition Li2O-Na2O-B2O3: Fe2O3 with replacing alkali oxides one by another have been reported in the fourth paper. Dielectric properties of these glasses have also been explored. In biomedical applications, CaO-P2O5 based glass reinforced hydroxyapatite composite material for bone regenerative applications have been reported in paper five and six. Paper six, the guided bone regeneration procedure using a glass-reinforced HA and collagen membrane in the treatment of an intrabony defect was reported. Authors hope that this special volume may be useful for those who are searching for a general overview of glass science and its applications in different fields.
