Powders are the raw material for ceramics; the starting compositions for preparing bulk or film products. In addition, powders are used as additives to metals, polymers and composites. Whatever their function, powders - their characteristics and performance - govern the properties and quality of finished materials and products. Therefore, the importance of powders, including their synthesis and testing, cannot be overstated. The objective of this collection of peer-reviewed papers was to provide a forum where researchers, engineers and students could disseminate their latest research results and exchange views concerning the latest developments in novel technologies for fabricating and analyzing ceramic powders. This work is an essential guide to the above topics.

Advanced Materials and Processing are important areas of research in Engineering Science and Technology, which have to focus on bridging the critical gap between researchers and engineers in order to shape the new world. Advanced Materials and Processing play an increasingly important role in the global economy and in daily life. Researchers and engineers strive to develop new devices and processes, using mathematical and analytical tools, in order to create technologies for a rapidly expanding range of materials and manufacturing processes. A large proportion of the present papers addressed current scientific research and provided solutions to industrial problems; thereby creating an environment of mutual interest to industry and academia. The papers are grouped into 10 chapters: 1. Forming Processes, 2. Casting, Joining and Related Processes, 3. Materials, 4. Materials Removal Processes, 5. High Energy Beam Removal Process, 6. Precision Engineering and Nano-Technology, 7. Surface Engineering, 8. Computer-Aided Engineering, 9. Green Manufacturing and Management, 10. Others. This comprehensive coverage will be much appreciated by readers.

The editors of this special volume made every effort to invite all of those corrosion specialists working in the field of lightweight alloys and, specifically, their modeling. Their expertise provided a basis upon which to discuss corrosion problems and solutions for Military and Aerospace Systems and Facilities; thus laying a solid foundation for the tackling of yet-unsolved issues. The use of lightweight metals and composites to replace heavy structural materials for military hardware and weapons systems (ships, aircraft, ground vehicles, etc.) is a new strategic consideration for defence forces; falling under Naval S&T Strategic Plans. The objectives of the workshop were to seek state-of-the-art ideas, from outside of the continental United States, in the field of low-density metallic materials and composites for structural applications, as well as modeling and simulation software tools which are capable of generating and identifying damage evolution data for health monitoring, corrosion control, life prediction and assessment of civil and military hardware systems. The result is an invaluable guide to this increasingly important topic.
