Abstract: Single-story brick column workshops are widely used as the production or storage room of medium and small-sized enterprises in China. Based on the field investigation of single-story brick column workshops at the earthquake-affected area after Lushan 7.0 earthquake, the damage characteristics of workshops are summed up. Damage prediction analyses are carried out for two typical single-story brick column workshops, and failure mechanism researches are conducted by using ABAQUS finite element software for a workshop. Finally, according to the results of failure mechanism researches, some relevant suggestions of the seismic reinforcement are put forward.

Abstract: The hill buildings sited on slopes have been widely constructed in mountainous regions. In order to estimate the seismic vulnerability of the hill buildings with uneven ground column heights under the effect of potential earthquakes, the exceedance probabilities of the hill buildings sited on different angle slopes in peak ground acceleration (PGA) are calculated and compared by using the incremental dynamic analysis method. The fragility curves show the slope angle has considerable influence on the seismic performance. Specifically, the exceedance probability increases with the increasing of the slope angle at the same performance level.

Abstract: Integrating the available research results from fragility analysis of building structures and seismic hazard analysis, this study explored some probability information for current earthquake resistant design for general buildings and examined structural performance of buildings under the action of earthquake motions. The results of this study show that performance objectives suggested by FEMA are not realized for the buildings of light steel, pre-cast concrete, reinforced masonry, and un-reinforced masonry, designed according to the Taiwan seismic design standards. The results may provide some valuable information for future code calibration in Taiwan.

Abstract: The paper introduces a method for connecting fabricated shear wall with beam in a plane by sleeve, and uses the finite element software to analyze and compare the seismic performance of precast wall beams node and cast wall beam node. It concluded:Seismic performance of prefabricated wall beam node and cast wall beam node are basically the same , while the prefabricated wall beam node has higher strength, which indicates that the connection of precast specimen is reliable. However, before putting it into practical, application, further study on it is still necessary.

Abstract: Based on viscous-spring artificial boundary of time domain and the corresponding wave input method, the dynamic time history of fault fracture zone containing saturated soil is studied when SV waves are imported vertically into it. The change of saturated soil thickness, angle and width of the fault has influence on the site seismic response, and the influence is analyzed and discussed. Studies show that the peak value of the fault’s surface displacement decreases slightly when the fault has a dip; and the influence of the width of fault containing saturated soil on seismic response of the site is small.

Abstract: The characteristics of explicit numerical integral method is without iteration, and the characteristics of inexplicit numerical integral method is unconditionally stable. The traditional CD-Newmark method has the shortcoming of the bigger upper frequency leads to a small time step, a modified combined integral method named MCD-Newmark release the fixed DOF of numerical substructure, then obtained the parameters range of stable condition of experimental substructure, and the unconditionally stable of numerical substructure is also researched, then the strict stability conditions of the traditional CD-Newmark algorithm is resolved. The study provides reference for structural seismic test.

Abstract: A new seismic isolation system entirely different from wildly used Laminated Rubber seismic isolator model was suggested. Vibration table test on the Plexiglas model of the suggested seismic-isolation (S-I) system was carried out. The results show that the seismic force transferred to the superstructure is only about one-tenth of the ground vibrating.

Abstract: The gravity data from 1998 to 2012 in eastern margin of Tibetan Plateau was processed to analysis the relation between gravity field and earthquake activities. The results show that long period gravity change appears to be concentrated in regions with active faults, and short term variation may be affected by change of the active tectonic in eastern margin of Tibet plateau that due to energy release and adjustment after Wenchuan Ms 7.9 and Yushu Ms 7.1 earthquake. Specifically, gravity field alternated with positive and negative from 2010 to 2011 reflects viscoelastic properties of coseismic deformation after Wuchuan earthquake; a restorational change from negative to positive during 2011-2012 provides support crust tectonics exists strain accumulate and release stage in regions.

Abstract: The influential factors on synthetic seismic waves and seismic codes in China are described in detail in this paper. And the evolution of synthetic seismic waves is overviewed. The methods of synthetic ground motion in the earthquake engineering field are summarized in order to provide references for the synthetic ground motion. Based on the study situation over the world, the issues and trend are presented. Some suggestions are provided for improving the codes and standards.
