Influence of Low NOx Burner Retrofit on the Performances of a Boiler

Abstract:

This paper presents the experimental investigation on the operational performances of a Boiler after a Low NOx burner retrofit. After the retrofit, several operational performances emerge a major change, including the unburned combustible in flying ash raise under higher load, the temperature of reheat steam drop greatly under lower load. As a result, the changes have an influence on the economy of boiler. As for it, a special experimental study was carried out to obtain the best operating mode, and the law of change on the several parameters. The research results are a significant reference to retrofit involved in Low NOx burner utilized to a boiler.

[1] In pace with a series of environmental protection standards of China is put into practice successively, the NOx emissions from power plant will be get to strictly monitor. Based on it, it is conceivable that the Low NOx emissions technology is certain to be widely used. The technology includes installing the SCR system in the flue after economizer, and utilizing the low NOx burner in boiler furnace. In this research, a series of test were carried out to analyze the influences of retrofit by Low NOx burner on the boiler characteristics. Its conclusions are of great importance to know the technology further and provide some experience to direct pertinent retrofit in other power plants.

[2] At present, on the Low NOx technology, a widely accepted opinion in China is that when the method of air staging is adopted the temperature of reheat stream will increase due to ascend of flame. But, the temperature of reheat stream of two boilers, in Henan Province, exhibits a trend of decrease after retrofit according air staging method. Obviously, the case is conflicted with the mainstream view. In our opinion, the temperature of steam is subjected to many factors after retrofit utilizing low NOx burner, and it needs to carry out further investigation.
