Study on Microstructure and Property of Cast Aluminum from the Reaction of New SHS Aluminum Welding Powder

Article Preview

Abstract:

This paper provides a new method of producing molten weld metal for use in joining two aluminum containing pieces by using the reaction of aluminum and calcium sulfate. First we confected SHS aluminum welding powder including Al, CaSO4, KF, KClO3, Cu and Si, then ignited it and obtained the cast aluminum. Afterwards, we observed the samples of the cast aluminum under a metallographic microscope and tested their hardness with a micro hardness tester. The experimental results demonstrate that aluminum and calcium sulfate can react to get cast aluminum and the microstructure and property of the cast aluminum substantially meet the need to weld aluminum and its alloy.
