Friction Stir Linear Welding of an Aluminum Alloy

Article Preview

Abstract:

The joining process by friction linear stir welding of aluminum strips was implemented in a machining center. The trials were conducted on 1 mm thick strips from a 6061T6 aluminum alloys that were welded together by the action of the rotating tool; the parameters that were varied in these tests were the rotating and advancing speeds. The specimens were sectioned to evaluate the joint strength. Metallographic analyses and Vickers micro hardness indentations were carried out.
