Abstract:

Al-Al2O3-MgO specimen was made with fused magnesia as aggregate, tabular alumina, fused magnesia and aluminum as co-matrix. It is sintered at 1600 °C under N2. Aluminum powder contents is 0%, 4%, 6%, 10% respectively. The result shows: the sample has formed new phase of AlN, AlON, MgAlON. When aluminum powder contents is 4% AlN and AlON begin to form, and aluminum powder is 6% AlN and AlON form obviously, and MgAlON is formed. Besides the amount of MgAlON is increasing with the aluminum content adding. Aluminum-adding is good solution to decrease the synthesis temperature of AlON, MgAlON.
