These proceedings describe the most recent advances and trends in the fields of dusty and colloidal plasmas: a new discipline which is highly relevant to those working on nanostructured materials, nanotechnologies and devices which are processed using plasma and fusion tools. For instance, in the case of thin-film devices, the production of new materials such as polymorphous or quasi-morphous silicon or even silicon nanotubes is highly dependent upon the production of particles, in the plasma, which are suitable for incorporation into the films produced. Therefore, it is very important to know how dusty and colloidal plasmas behave, and how high-grade electronic films can be processed under such conditions.

X-ray powder diffraction is a non-destructive technique widely applied for the characterisation of crystalline materials. The method has been traditionally used for phase identification, quantitative analysis and the determination of structure imperfections. In recent years, applications have been extended to new areas, such as the determination of crystal structures and the extraction of three-dimensional microstructural properties.

This book deals with the chemical and electrochemical reactivity of novel materials in various environments. Special emphasis is put on metastable materials such as amorphous and nanostructured materials including carbon nanostructures and the novel bulk metallic glasses. Description: Mechanical spectroscopy is a non-destructive technique that is very well suited for studying the dynamics of singularities such as structural defects in solids. It has been successfully applied in solid state physics and materials science for more than fifty years, and the present textbook aims at summarising the state-of-the-art in this field by presenting recent results obtained in Western European laboratories. The contents are divided into nine chapters. Introduction to mechanical spectroscopy (Ch.1) is based on a complete description of the elastic, viscoelastic, and viscoplastic behaviours of solids. The anelastic response is analysed from three different viewpoints: phenomenology, rheology and thermodynamics.
