These types of high surface area materials hold tremendous untapped potential in micro-total analysis systems, micro-reaction technology and clean energy systems.
Also, monolithic materials are considered as novel materials for the generation of stationary phases in the separation science because of their easy preparation, excellent flow properties and high performances when compared with conventional packed beds [13-16].

Several pyrochlore and perovskite materials have shown promising physical and thermal properties for use as complementary upper layer of YSZ in the FGM TBC system.
These materials exhibit lower thermal conductivity and higher thermal stability than YSZ [2,5,6].
To remedy this shortcoming, the candidate materials were tried as complementary topcoat for YSZ in double layer systems.
