Finely dispersed water with an average drop size smaller than 150 µm has a predominant influence on combustion zone and completely evaporates in it.Water drops larger than 0.5 mm are only partially evaporate in a gas phase and have an influence mainly on a burning surface of solid combustible materials or flammable liquid.

For example, the steel materials on scrapped ships are usually coated with paint containing lead, cadmium, organotin, arsenic, zinc and chromium.
Meanwhile, various hazardous materials are discharged from end-of-life ships and form the accumulation of metal fragments and rust in the soil so that the binding properties of the beach soil are lost.
Each new ship shall have on board an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM).
The recycling procedures include a rigorous pre-cleaning, during which all hazardous materials are carefully handled, separated and disposed of according to the highest standards.
