A silicon nanoporous pillar array (Si-NPA) is a silicon hierarchical structure with regularly patterned surface morphology.
The unique structure and chemical and physical properties of Si-NPA make it an ideal substrate or template for preparing or assembling various Si-based functional nanosystems with regularly patterned structures.
These structural features make Si-NPA become a possible template for assembling functional silicon-based nanocomposite systems with patterned structures.

The results showed that porous structure on the surface of titanium alloy was prepared by dual acid etching treatment and the surfaces treated with acid had higher roughness and better wettability than the surface treated only by grit-blasting.
It is well known that the surface characteristics of implants play critical roles in the surgically placing implants, especially the surface characteristics of topography, chemistry, surface roughness and hydrophilicity.
The surface of sample treated with grit-blasting and HCl/H2SO4 acid etching produced hierarchical structure of cavities with diameters of about 10-20μm, which were completely superposed by smaller pores of 1-2μm diameter (see Figs.1c and 1d).
The results obtained in this study clearly suggest that the surface chemistry and wettability of both the dual acid-etching (Group D) and the hot HCl/H2SO4 etching (Group C) modified Ti6Al4V were almost identical.
