Description: In spite of the very great progress made in ceramic science, and the elegance and excitement of the research which has been performed, the real driving force for developments in ceramics remains their potential applications. The opportunity for dramatic scientific advances was certainly one reason for the "ceramic fever" of a decade ago, but there is also no doubt that the prediction of an annual market for fine ceramics, amounting to 6 billion Yen played a role.
Edited by: Robert J. Cernik, R. Delhez and Prof. Eric Jan Mittemeijer
Online since: July 1996
Description: This comprehensive publication presents most recent results, and covers practically all aspects of powder diffraction. Part 1 contains contributions dealing with powder diffraction methods, and the larger second part comprises contributions which deal with the application of powder-diffraction methods to specific problems in the physics and chemistry of solids.
Edited by: D.K. Chaturvedi and G.E. Murch
Online since: July 1996
Description: The physics of ordered materials is much better understood than that of disordered materials. The lack of a long-range periodic structure makes it difficult to develop the theory of disordered phases. It is not surprising that it is often found difficult to interpret experimental data on these systems.
Edited by: S. Pizzini, H.P. Strunk and J.H. Werner
Online since: May 1996
Description: The present volume covers many aspects of semiconductors, over the wide structural range from nano- to large-grained crystalline. Scientists working on polycrystalline semiconductors, with various chemistries, here review fundamental research, technology and applications.
Edited by: D.L. Beke and I.A. Szabó
Online since: March 1996
Description: The problem of the interrelationship between diffusion and stresses is as old as the investigation of diffusion itself. Crack formation during surface oxidation, stress-induced diffusion (creep, Gorsky-effect) and the macroscopic deformation of diffusion couples during interdiffusion are well-known classical examples.
Edited by: H. Yoshinaga, T. Watanabe and N. Takahashi
Online since: March 1996
Description: Grain Growth is one of the most fundamental microstructural changes, and occurs in all types of polycrystalline material. It is of major scientific interest, and of great importance in a wide range of industrial applications.
Edited by: A.C. Ferro, J.P. Conde and M.A. Fortes
Online since: February 1996
Description: This publication focuses on the structural and chemical characterization of interfaces and their kinetic, mechanical and electrical properties. The size of the volume, consisting of almost 200 papers and over 900 pages, reflects the great current interest in the field.
Edited by: A.M. Mancini, C. Paorici and M.L. Terranova
Online since: February 1996
Description: The field of crystal growth has developed steadily with the rapid progress in microelectronics. The purpose of this book is to present a survey of the most recent results related to this subject area. The book will serve as both an up-to-date review for experts and as a reference work on crystal growth for younger scientists and for those who wish to keep track of the advances and technological trends in the field.
Edited by: E. Bonetti and D. Fiorani
Online since: November 1995
Description: The purpose of this book is to present a survey of the latest developments in the field of nanophase materials. The topics included are interdisciplinary in nature, covering theory, materials preparation, structural characterization, thermodynamic aspects and mechanical, optical, electrical and magnetic properties.
Edited by: S. Hampshire, M. Buggy, B. Meenan and N. Brown
Online since: March 1995
Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The 1990's so far have seen significant developments in Materials Technology in a variety of materials classes such as Metals and Alloys, Ceramics and Coatings, Biomaterials, and Surfaces and Interfaces.
