Abstract: In this paper we propose models for solving both the layout manufacturing problems and the scheduling manufacturing systems. These models are based on Coloured petri Nets. The particularity of our models is the possibility to include complex programmable functions inside the petri nets models. In our case the programming language is SML/NJ. The advantage of programming language is the possibility to use Heuristics or Meta-heuristic optimization methods inside the Coloured Petri Nets (CPN) model without the necessity to relaunch the simulation of the model at each step of optimization. For describing, analysing and simulating our models we will use CPN Tools.

Abstract: It is proposed to set the structure of metal products quality as a hierarchical tree of properties. Input and output variables and also control parameters of technological processes are represented as universal multitudes in formalization of the process of production quality indices handling in hardware industry technologies. Presence of simultaneously diversified information initiating different types of independence, is characteristic of solving problems of metal products quality indices control.

Abstract: Lean Six Sigma is a disciplined data driven approach to improve the quality and the performance of a process or a system with which finally results to the profitability of a firm. Many of the organizations have adopted Six Sigma methodology to improve their quality and their performance to competitive industrial world. This work is concentrated with one of the leading Automotive component manufacturing company in South India. The main objective of this paper was to reduce the product defect with the application of Lean Six Sigma methodology. The paper follows the DMAIC methodology to investigate defects and its root causes and provide a solution to reduce and/or eliminate these defects. This paper also explores how a manufacturing process can use a systematic methodology to move towards world-class quality level.

Abstract: A supply chain consists of a number of manufacturing sites and distribution centers. Based on energy assessment projects involving 150 manufacturing sites and distribution centers, this paper presents two case studies – one energy intensive manufacturing organization, and one typical distribution center – to illustrate the kind of energy saving opportunities that can be typically identified in manufacturing, and in supply. As a major effort to promote energy efficiency, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed a new set of standards addressing the use of energy in businesses: ISO50001:2011. This proposes technical and management strategies for companies to follow so that energy use may be maximized, costs may be reduced and there is minimal stress on the environment. In reality, however, industrial companies need understanding and real life cases to be able to plan for actions. The cases in this paper provide a window to look into same fairly common examples of energy saving possibilities that exist in the manufacturing sites and the distribution centers within a supply chain.

Abstract: Owing to the fact that the power can not be stored directly and the supply must meet the demand in real time, the price of electricity is more volatile than other commodities. In order to hedge the risk, the power plant can sign the power sale contracts with big customers by the promissory price. Using the Bayesian equilibrium theory, this paper establishes the bidding models on two power plants competing for selling the electricity to the big customer. The computing result shows that the power plant’s optimal bidding strategy equals to the mean of the competitor’s ceiling bidding price and its own marginal cost.

Abstract: In this article a procedure is introduced to improve transparency and reliability of results for the selection of material flow design alternatives including machine tools and other capital-intensive goods. In the design phase of material flow planning projects, key performance indicators (KPIs) for design alternatives including processing as well as intralogistics elements can be derived using simulation. Using the state of the art method in value stream design and simulation often volatile input data is taken into account only in the simulation itself, but not in the downstream comparison of alternative designs, which could lead to imprecise conclusions and therefore to wrong investment decisions. To overcome this issue and to consider variability in the whole simulation phase and a subsequent decision making process, a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) with two fuzzy representations is proposed and discussed here with the aim of helping practitioners to get more competitive value streams. A further goal of the article is the comparison between both forms used for fuzzy representation. Using the design example of machine tool-intralogistics systems obtained results are discussed.

Abstract: This paper focuses on assessing airport sustainable development ability. A new concept to evaluate the dynamic work on sustainable development is proposed, which is defined as airport sustainable development capacity as well as the status quo of Shanghai airport. The index system of airport sustainable is given, which includes Operational, Social, Environmental, Resources and energy system. The Airport Sustainable Development Comprehensive Index (ASDCI) is proposed, and investigates the parameter with Particle Swarm Optimization. Found that there was a marked improvement of Shanghai airport sustainable development by empirical analysis, especially the Environmental, Resources and energy. This mode has used in shanghai airport’s sustainable development evaluation system.

Abstract: Current European regulation that allows flying in forecasted, differently contaminated, volcanic ash zones as long as specific Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) is approved has the goal to reduce adverse impact that volcanic ash ejected in the atmosphere can have on air traffic management (ATM). However, the European States do not have unique understanding of this approach meaning that, in a few cases, States still decide to close their airspace in case of ash presence. Therefore, in this contribution, we analyze how definition of flying area within SRA and different State’s approach affect operations. We use volcanic ash data from the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO’s) volcanic ash exercise (VOLCEX13/01) and daily European traffic for simulation.

Abstract: Cloud computing is becoming one of the most convenient ways for information services through network accesses. In this paper, we describe the architecture of cloud computing and discuss the issue of in-cast, which may downgrade the transmission performance when the number of simultaneous transmission servers is getting larger. The in-cast transmission may introduce the out of sequence of packet delivery and may reduce the system throughput. This paper constructs the software environment to simulate the performance of video streaming services delivered by the servers in cloud. We first examine the performance of the out of sequence issue of packet transmission when the Hashed Credit Fair (HCF) algorithm was applied and investigate the multicast performance of video streaming service with respect to the numbers of servers. With the increasing of the number of servers, we note that transmission performance is not improved, on the contrary, the system throughput downgrades sharply. We believe the simulation results of this paper will be helpful for the design of cloud video multicast services.

Abstract: Reconciliation protocol is used in quantum key distribution to remove residual errors in qubits distilled through quantum channel. This paper introduces the implementation of reconciliation protocol in Digital Signal Processor. Memory required by the implementation is only 96K bytes. TI TMS2812 with 128K bytes off-chip memory is used for the implementation and the performance evaluation is carried out.
