Abstract: In the process of information semantic integration for product design and manufacturing, it is very important to express the product information semantic. Description logics (DLs) are a family of state-of-the-art knowledge representation languages, and a decidable subset of first-order logic. Firstly, by analyzing the characteristics of product information, proposed a semantic information description framework based on description logics for product information integration, which is divided into three levels: basic description logic, classic extended logic and unusual extended logic. Then, in the framework, reducer was taken for example to illustrate the application of their description logic in product design and manufacturing formal semantic information. Finally, based on description logic, discussed reasoning problems of product design and manufacturing information.

Abstract: Shortcomings of current conflict resolution methods in solving the problems of disordered competition for design resource in networked design environment are analyzed. By introducing the design structure matrix (DSM) to the planning process of design task, a mathematic description model in collaborative design considering the conflict causes as resource conflict, process conflict and design conflict is given. The reconstruction method of the DSM as well as the DSM based matrix search algorithm is given, based on which the problem of design locking and long waiting because of limited resource in the collaborative design process can be successfully solved. Finally, the design of a bridge crane is used as an example to demonstrate the successful application of the proposed resource conflict resolution strategy in collaborative Design environment.

Abstract: This article focuses on product modularization design based on industrial product recycling, and will discuss the meaning and importance of modularization design in environmental protection and energy conservation. The method and essential technology of utilizing modularization design in product recycling are also explored and summarized, and it is argued that the possible benefits include pollution reduction, energy conservation and environmental protection.

Abstract: The proportion of plastic components in automobiles has increased over past few decades. With the pressure of legislation on treatment of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and economical and environmental concerns, the management of plastic scrap in ELVs is becoming an important issue. This paper reviewed utilization of plastics in automobile production and traditional management of components from ELVs, with introduction of new legislation problems have been identified in the recycling of plastic from ELVs. Some examples of closed-loop recycling of plastic automobile parts are presented, and the potentials of using recycled plastics in automobile production are also discussed.

Abstract: Rapid Response Design (RRD) attempts to put the product design into effect in the minimum time to satisfy the customer requirements. Product manufacturability has a very important effect on the performance of product design, especially in the progress of rapid response design. The concept of product manufacturability is usually considered as a multi-objective problem. An effective product manufacturability evaluation procedure necessitates the consideration of qualitative criteria, e.g., product quality, as well as quantitative criteria such as material cost in the decision process. This paper purposed an evaluation model of product manufacturability for RRD based on the data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology and analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The proposed evaluation model is both effective and efficient.

Abstract: An engineering change is costly and time consuming. Therefore, the research of effective methods and software is highly significant to engineering change analysis. This paper has conducted research on the engineering change analysis method and decision support environment. The characteristics of an engineering change were demonstrated; the data model was set up for supporting engineering change analysis; the method for analyzing engineering change propagation was proposed. The multi-user dynamic analysis of an engineering change and storage of the engineering change scheme with reusability were achieved in this paper. According to the results, the research shows more flexible and efficient to analyze engineering changes and further assure the completeness of changed data.

Abstract: Based on the partial least squares (PLS) method, this article use the universities total R&D expenditure within the spending, total R&D personnel full-time equivalent, the total number of papers included by foreign main search tools and the total authorized number of patent applications as the independent indicators to quantitatively analyze the impact on the high-tech industry development. The results showed that the total authorized number of patent applications and total R&D expenditure within the spending have more intense impact on high-tech industry development, while the total R&D personnel full-time equivalent is not obvious to the innovation output.

Abstract: A dynamic evolutionary algorithms (DEA) is designed to solve engineering problems in this paper. The DEA algorithm makes two differences. (1) Dynamic technique is used to handle equality constraints. (2) Two unrelated crossovers (linear crossover and uniform crossover) are combined in the algorithm for avoiding duplicate search and then helping global search. In solving engineering problems, three steps are taken: a DEA algorithm is designed first, then after tested by general benchmark problems, it is improved, and the third step is that the improved DEA algorithm is applied to solve engineering problems. The general test suggests our DEA algorithm outperforms the compared state-of-the-art other algorithms. The experimental results in solving 5 engineering problems indicate that our method works much better than the compared state-of-the-art algorithms, especially, in global search.

Abstract: The lean manufacturing has been widely applied in the most of the industry sectors. Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) is one of lean manufacturing tools that can be used to further reduce production waste. In order to ensure waste be effectively reduced, lean manufacturing has tools to achieve its goal. The first step is analysis of current state value stream map from the production line. The second step is the use of Single Minute Exchange of Dies to propose and carry out improvement actions in bottleneck process. In this study, the aerospace engine case production lead time was reduced from 9 weeks to 7 weeks by VSM method. The SMED method was applied to improve bottleneck’s setup time from 95.68 minutes to 76.97 minutes. The lean manufacturing tool can help factory to reduce inventory in the WIP.
