Research on the Strength of Green Hydroxyapatite Coating Obtained by Electrophoretic Deposition
Abstract:
Coating hydroxyapatite (HA) onto matrix materials is a promising technique. The firm level of green coating is very important to the further sintering treatment. In this paper the HA powders with different ripening time were synthesized by precipitation process using (NH4)3PO4 and Ca(NO3)2 at room temperature. The influence of ripening time and the kind of dispersion medium on the strength of green HA coatings was studied by means of coating HA onto pyrolytic carbon via electrophoretic deposition (EPD). The results show that the ripening time of HA particles and dispersion medium affect the strength of green HA coatings obtained by EPD obviously. The recommended ripening time of HA particles is about 22 hours if anhydrous ethanol or n-butanol is used as dispersion medium. The strength of green HA coatings obtained by EPD can be enhanced miraculously if glycol is used as dispersion medium.
