Abstract: Incineration is the main way to dispose the municipal solid waste (MSW) in Taiwan. The amount of MSW is rapidly decreased during recent 10 years due to the policies implementation of waste reduction and resource recycle since 2003. Assessment of incinerator operation stop and transformation therefore becomes an essential issue. An evaluation framework was constructed and put into practice in this research. With the considerations of service status, operation performance, MSW treatment status and the impact level of stopping operation was integrated and assessed in the first stage. An optimal model was built for re-programming the MSW clean strategies of original service areas by taking account of MSW collection distance, design capacity of incinerators and the heating value of solid waste in the second stage. A case study was implemented for four incinerators in Kaohsiung City of southern Taiwan to demonstrate the feasibility of proposed assessment framework.

Abstract: A new method for indoor air quality assessment with training artificial neural network prediction model was presented. Genetic algorithm was used to train artificial neural network prediction model in this method. The train sample for artificial neural network learning model was grading standard. According to the weight and threshold after network study, this method could be used to make assessment on indoor air quality. The example of indoor air quality assessment demonstrated that this method improved prediction precision. This assessment method is more accurate than the traditional assessment methods. Moreover, it has the ability of global optimization, self-learning, self-adaption. This algorithm overcomes the shortcomings of traditional BP artificial neural network algorithm.

Abstract: Climate change has been highlighted as an apparent and urgent challenge in environmental research fields, with increasing recognition that it has caused various issues such as temperature and sea level rising, season alternation changing, more frequent flood and storm and extreme events. Thus, it is deemed necessary to modify the existing environmental management system so as to cope with the challenges China is being confronted with. Actually, adverse impact is one of the key drives for incorporating climate change into Chinas strategic environmental assessment, while another is improving Chinas SEA system. This paper contributed to proposing a mechanism which helps to make Chinas SEA put full consideration on issues related to climate change. Finally, a framework where climate change is systematically integrated into SEA was demonstrated.

Abstract: Payment for Environmental Services (PES) has been widely adopted as a solution to compensate upstream water users for providing clean water. However, the size of payments is critical to the success of PES, and the problems of determining the correct price is often critical to the implementation of PES policies. We demonstrate three independent valuation methods to determine the price of the ecosystem service (ES) of water quality in the Miyun Reservoir, the main surface water source for Beijing. The three using valuation methods are: i) Water Resources Benefits Assessment (WRBA), ii) Contingent valuation method (CVM), and opportunity cost of limitation of development rights (OCLDR). We found the value of water quality is lowest using OCLDR, highest with CVM, and the WRBA in-between. We propose OCLDR is used to determine compensation to upstream; WRBA for pricing water transfer; and CVM for payments integrated water quality improvement.

Abstract: Geoheritage are important resource for human to understand the Earth's history. The geoheritage study has practical significance in the effective protection of geoheritage, the local ecological environment, the popularization of science of the earth, the promoting of local economic in the way of sustainable development, and so on. This paper using AHP and comprehensive evaluation (weighted sum of multi-index comprehensive evaluation model), and expert consultation combining three types of evaluation method, calculates the geoheritage resources and acquires a quantitative result. And the result provides reference for the protection, development and construction of Ningcheng National Geopark.

Abstract: Regional environmental performance assessment could measure the achievement of the environmental management effectively. It contributed to raise the level of government environmental management, and provided a basis for policy-making. On the basis of existing research, the paper adopted the PSR model and the thematic framework model to established Tianjin environmental performance assessment index system, and calculated the environmental performance level (EPI) of Tianjin from 2006 to 2010. The analysis showed that there is a substantial increase in environmental management of Tianjin on the aspects of environmental equality, efficiency of resource use, contamination control, and environmental infrastructure construction. The dominant indictors of EPI in Tianjin are urban ecosystem vitality, environmental equality, and efficiency of resource use. In order to improve the effectiveness of the EPA, the policy object system should be improved, and a complete data base should be established in the meantime of building and improving the system of regional environmental performance assessment.

Abstract: Using Xiquan Lake wetland as an example, the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method in the application of surface water quality assessment was discussed in this paper. This paper chooses six representative pollution index, calculates respectively weight and integrated membership grade of the pollution index during dry season and rain season, and overall evaluates surface water quality of Xiquan Lake wetland comprehensive. Fuzzy comprehensive evaluation results show that water quality is respectively class V and III during dry season and rain season. Surface water quality of Xiquan Lake wetland in rain season is worse than in dry season. The evaluation results are scientific and reasonable, provide effective basis for wetland resources use and management.

Abstract: In this paper, the applications of bipartite graph in industrial complex networks were discussed, mainly through the form of a dual-mode network model. In order to illuminate the process of studying environmental problems, this theory was analyzed deeply and used to construct Industrial Environmental Resources Competition Network on the basis of the data of 2010 from Guangzhou Economic and Technical Development Zone.

Abstract: This paper, through the layer-by-layer decomposition of risk sources and risk receptor, constructs an ecological risk assessment indicator system of damaged forest in coal mining area. Based on the reality of A coal mining area, with the application of improved risk model, this paper processes and analyzes the statistics and solid - state survey data in A coal mining area to get the ecological effects of forest damage led by coal mining in that area, and calculates the loss value, the compensation amount and the compensation scale of the forest ecosystem service function in the subsidence area of fully mechanized mining area.

Abstract: In reference to international regional sewage pipe network and sewage treatment plant planning, the actual situation of China's villages and small town was investigated. According to the costs data from presented sewage pipe and sewage treatment plant construction system, the model on the sewage pipe network and sewage treatment plant charge was obtained. Then the model was simplified to be calculating the shortest distance between the wastewater treatment plant and the effluent discharge point. The suitable computing method for the shortest distance is building the minimum spanning tree. The software for computing was written with prim algorithm. The computing results can be used as a planning and design reference of sewage pipe network. The model method can be used for design program to select long-distance transmission or local treatment of the sewage.
