Alternatively, polymer-covered magnetic particles can be produced by in situ precipitation of magnetic materials in the presence of a polymer that acts as a stabilizer.
SEM offers better information on particle shape, especially for coarser materials.
Paramagnetic substances and superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic materials have been used as MRI contrast agents because paramagnetic substances have a net positive magnetic susceptibility, while superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic materials have very large net positive magnetic susceptibilities since these materials become magnetized in the presence of an external magnetic field.
