Abstract: Cost of building structure takes a large proportion of total construction investment. Investors also come to realize that different structural designs affect project cost, which means the higher demand for structural design institutes, because it requires structural designers to work out safe, suitable, perdurable and economic structural design by either meeting current design codes, or considering structure cost constraints and architectural design scheme. One way of controlling the structural engineering cost is to optimize the structural design. This article analyzes the factors which affect the structural costs and optimal design methods, and it discusses the relationship of structural material quantity and structural safety. This article aims to provide reference and guidance for structural designer’s optimization.

Abstract: Lighting consumes approximately 24.8% of the electrical energy supplied to office buildings in Taiwan. Even if those estimations are difficult to verify and might not be completely consistent, these figures lead to one important finding: around the world, the scientific community seems to agree that discussing the article lighting loads of buildings is extremely important and that energy-efficient lighting solutions have to be adopted. In order to guarantee an appropriate visual comfort in office, the horizontal illumination (especially on the working plan) must be sufficiently enough. According to CIE, it is suggested in 200 lux to 500 lux in offices, and CNS (Chinese National Standards, Taiwan) is 500 lux in Taiwans offices. According to survey and questionnaire, 500lux maybe is too high for employee in Taiwan. When the illuminance is below 500lux, brightness and satisfaction is not bad, and when the illuminance is over 500lux, brightness and satisfaction is not better than low illuminance. Even if office is in high horizontal illuminance environment, employees brightness, satisfaction and productivity are not guaranteed.

Abstract: The rapid growth of road traffic brings some requirements on driving comfort and safety, which include good smoothness, skid resistance and reduced noise of the pavement. SMA has adequate structure strength to reduce rutting and provide superior surface function of skid resistance. Modified asphalt as mixture binder, has considerable durability to ensure the service life with less maintenance costs. Associated with laboratory test and trial section, some suggestion and requirements are brought forward in this paper for the material properties and mixture design of SMA on the FuZhou-JiAn expressway in Jiangxi Province.

Abstract: The design and the manufacturing configuration are important for the supply chain to ship the successful new product to market. In order to improve the manufacturing configuration to achieve the higher quality, lower cost and on time delivery before design readiness, the structured approach is presented in this research from the perspective of the SCM. The DFX with CE and the One-time-pass-rate with VSM are implemented to improve the manufacturing configuration. The key statistical techniques including FMEA and SPC are utilized. The case study on company of power meter demonstrates that the structured approach can help to improve 28% of the performance on manufacturing configuration before design readiness.

Abstract: In order to solve the problem that the design and manufacture method for letters product in traditional ways has a long period and high cost, a new design and manufacture method based on RP technology was proposed. Firstly, Rhinoceros software was used to design the initial model, and then the initial model was put into SolidWorks software for model processing. After that, the established model was put into RPdata software for data processing. Finally, by using RP450B rapid prototyping machine, a rapid prototype of the model was achieved. Through the study, some key problems such as model design, processing of model data and manufacturing process were discussed. The new design and manufacture method has greatly shortened the design and manufacture cycle of the letters product, and it provides the reference for the design and manufacture for other art works.

Abstract: An enormous amount of reusable energy, especially heat, steam, water, oil and so on can be generated or retrieved during the production in industries. It is profitable for companies to efficiently recycle this kind of energy for cutting down on energy consumption. To achieve this, the integrated concept is applied to maximizing energy saving potential in industries. A brief introduction to the development of the process integration technology is given at first. A modeling approach dedicated to build process model and optimization model is then proposed, which integrates all the production activities through the formation of energy, material, and information and emission flow. Sine chloralkali production is a typical industry process involving with considerable energy worthwhile to reuse, the proposed modeling approach are carried out to this case for demonstrating the implementation of the integrated concept in industries.

Abstract: Nowadays, furniture products with local characteristics and furniture designing based on "nature" is becoming more and more popular. Black bamboo, a kind of new green materials, has the potential of being made into furniture and the Huxiang Culture which is rich in human and unique in its own region.Aim:The combination of these two can create new furniture. Methods:Based on design material of Smoked Bamboo, the paper researches the extraction of Hunan culture element method, and sums up the principles of appling Huxiang culture elements into the design of Smoked Bamboo furniture to create new furniture with flavor of Huxiang regional culture through Xiangxi tujia brocade, Mawangdui lacquer and Xiangxi diaojiao building. Result:The exploration in this field varies the species of furniture products, and meets the people’s different needs, offering reference for other regional characteristic furniture design at the same time.
